The Diabetes Center of Excellence,
its clinical teams, educators and researchers believe
in the right of each individual to achieve and maintain
the highest degree of wellness - recognizing that good
health is fundamental to a desirable quality of life.
Based on this belief, the mission of our Diabetes Center
of Excellence is:
- to conduct original scientific research and
promote the advancement of technology enabling us
to cure diabetes in the next decade - a disease which
affects 17 million Americans and countless others
worldwide
- to provide educational programming for both
patients and professionals, which enhances the understanding
of this disease and one's ability to effectively manage
it and avoid its life threatening complications
- to assure access to comprehensive clinical services
in a caring environment, unconditionally responsive
to the needs of our patients, their families and those
who must provide support
- to advocate and collaborate on public policies
that guarantee, to those who must live with this disease,
a responsive and sensitive health care environment
- to facilitate the learning and education
of future health care providers about the medical
and emotional care and treatment of those who may
seek their guidance about this disease
