Nurses wishing to learn
more about type 1 diabetes management in children
have a new opportunity to earn 3.0 contact hours,
free to nurses in the state of Florida. The Florida
Initiative in Telehealth & Education (FITE)
has developed an engaging website about Type 1 diabetes
featuring narrated animation, text and graphics.
Nurses take a pre-test
for each of 15 “chapters” and a post-test.
The site was written by two pediatric endocrinologists,
Drs. Toree Malasanos at the University of Florida,
and Dr. Andrew Muir, previously at UF and now at the
Medical College of Georgia, a certified diabetes educator,
Martha Halsey-Lyda, and a nurse who specializes in
patient education and online education, Julie Burlingame.
Contact hours are provided by Shands Nursing Education
Dept., provider number FBN2612.
To learn more about this education
site, nurses may log in to http://fite.peds.ufl.edu
and follow the link for instructions about Nursing
CEUs. Further information is also available from Julie
Burlingame, MS RN, FITE Program Director, at 352.334.1358.
